The Salt Path
We flew drones on the feature film adaptation of The Salt Path. Watch the official trailer.
“On a recent UKTV shoot, flying single operator against the clock, we went up at dawn over a beautiful Devon location, straight into the sun. We gave the director several options in one go, and they were stunned by the flares coming through on the monitor.”
Where we fly in Devon
We cover the whole county, and carry on into Dorset, Somerset and the rest of the South West. Typical Devon locations include:
- South Hams coast and Start Bay
- Plymouth and Plymouth Sound
- Dartmoor
- Exmoor and the North Devon coast
- Torbay and the English Riviera
- Exeter and the Exe Estuary
- East Devon and the Jurassic Coast
- Rivers, estuaries and harbours
Permissions handled
Devon has its own airspace and landowner checks: the flight restriction zone around Exeter Airport, the military ranges on Dartmoor, National Park and National Trust land, and busy harbours and beaches in summer. We plan the flights, prepare the risk assessment and flight plans, and liaise with landowners and your locations team.
We fly under our own CAA Operational Authorisation (PDRA01) with £5m drone liability insurance. We can fly under an OSC at additional cost. Safety and permissions.

Devon drone filming FAQs
Do you cover all of Devon?
Yes. We work across the whole county, from Plymouth and the South Hams to Exeter, Torbay, Dartmoor, Exmoor and North Devon, and on into Dorset and Somerset.
Who flies drones for TV and film in Devon?
Light Colour Sound has flown drones for TV, film and commercials since 2012. Devon credits include Black Mirror (Netflix), Bergerac (UKTV), Malory Towers (CBBC), the feature film The Salt Path and Wildanet's TV commercial.
Can you fly over Dartmoor?
Often, yes. Parts of Dartmoor are military firing ranges, and the National Park and landowners have their own rules, so we check the range schedule, airspace and permissions for every location before we fly.
