Hyperlapse filming in Cornwall and the UK

Tim Boydell is a Cornwall-based cinematographer who has shot hyperlapse by hand since 2011, the same year the term first came into use. We film hyperlapse for brands, commercials, TV and events across Cornwall, Devon, the UK and abroad, shot on Canon and Sony cameras in RAW, HDR or JPEG.

How a hyperlapse is made

A hyperlapse is a timelapse where the camera travels. Tim walks a planned path with the camera on a monopod, taking a frame at each step while keeping the subject locked in the same spot in frame. In post, the frames are stabilised into one smooth, moving shot that covers distance and time together.

Since 2011
Tim has shot hyperlapse since 2011, and has built his own timelapse rigs from the start.

POV hyperlapse
For Sotheby's at Chatsworth in 2015 we shot a point-of-view hyperlapse, one of the first of its kind.

Canon and Sony
Shot on Canon and Sony stills cameras, in RAW, HDR or JPEG.

Smooth in post
Every sequence is stabilised and finished in-house.

On the shoot

Planned to the step

A good hyperlapse is planned before the first frame: the route, the subject, the light and the interval.

  • A walked route with marked steps, so the subject stays locked in frame
  • Interval and shutter set for the light and the motion we want
  • Day-to-night, city, landscape, architecture and event hyperlapse

Finish and formats

Cinematic or fast turnaround

RAW and HDR

For a high-end, graded cinematic finish.

JPEG

For fast turnaround, such as events and social.

Anamorphic

We can run anamorphic lenses on the rigs.

Shutter drag

Our own filtration sets let us drag the shutter, smoothing motion and cutting stutter and other artefacts.
